The original design of the birdcage was not for a material other than the screening, or possibly canvas. I am guessing that going to a rigid clear material will require some modification to the system used to mount the material, and possibly to the struts. If you are using a clear flexible vinyl, then it maybe possible to use the original design. We just had a birdcage installed, and used heavier screening in the roof (50% sunblock) and pet screen in the bottom section. In both cases special splining was used due to the thicker material.
Your comment above did not reference if the clear vinyl was on the sides or the roof of the birdcage, so I will assume you will do to appropriate checks for the wind load on the structure, especially if you are enclosing the entire structure. NOTE: it will get really HOT in the summer, my get really HOT with just the roof done in the clear, ask around.
