Charts are titled INCIDENCE of STD, which by definition is new cases. PREVALENCE is the number of cases at any given time. There is generally no reporting requirement on physicians to report old/known/ongoing cases, just newly diagnosed and therefore INCIDENCE. Also, CDC is tracking gonorrhea, syphilis and chlamydia in these statistics, HSVI (herpes) is not included, probably because of the difficulty in tracking a disease marked by exacerbations and remissions
