I think it's reasonable to infer that, in most cases, if you are exposed to a religion or way of life at a young age, and as long as the memories are largely positive, you will likely have a soft spot for that in your heart as you get older ... even if you fall away from it for whatever reason.

I too was raised Catholic, but simple stopped going to church for 40+ years. Guess what, I rejoined the church just recently. You may still harbor ill feelings towards it still ... never said it's 100%.

But I think my point is valid ... when all is said and done, in my opinion Obama has an obvious soft spot in his heart towards Islam ... it is, after all, the faith of his father. I also think that explains why he was so quick to invite the Muslim kid from Dallas to the White House.
