In recent history, a lot of world events that weren't supposed to happen happened, the Soviet Union collapsing without the U.S. firing a shot being one of the most conspicuous.
Barack Obama was elected in 2008 promising to bring our forces home from Iraq. He took them out of Afghanistan too, the U.S. losing both wars. Whatever was supposed to happen next, it didn't include an unthinkable new Islamist entity emerging from the ruins, beheading innocent Americans and posting video of the atrocities.
In 2012, GOP nominee Mitt Romney warned of a resurgent Moscow and got ridiculed by Obama, who said, "You know, the Cold War's been over for 20 years."

This a comment referring to the German who wrote the book cited in the OP..

Years ago, all these would have seemed laughable predictions. But Obama's new world of American decline is full of such terrifying surprises. Who knows what the next ones will be.
In the last three years, we have seen gas used on children in the streets, bunker bombs used on people in their homes, beheadings, burnings.....prior, these were forbidden and taboo acts.

For those who may disagree or do not support what you are presenting they should not be arbitrarily categorized as mocking.....because that is not what was or is intended.
As for the commentary about the last three years brutality.....they still are forbidden and taboo. One has to recognize these practices are by a radical few even within the radicals. They do not set a new standard. They do show a brazen and emboldened demeanor that is inspired by their having no fear of reprisal from the USA anymore. They have laughed at Obama's speeches of a year ago claiming we shall go forth and decimate and then destroy ISIS and then did nothing. Now one year later they are twice as large, control a sizeable chunk of mid east real estate, continue to maim and kill and plunder and still no reaction from the USA. Yesterday they got confirmation from Obama during his speech onece again about what we won't stand for, but then qualifiesd how it would take a long time. They laughed and celebrated as they got another assurance of minimal involvement from Obama.
Obama's agenda and lack of response have turned out to be catalytic in the behalf of ISIS' agenda.
A true leader who said we will decimate and destroy over a year ago would have been able to show progress in STOPPING ISIS........not pussy footing around one year later with a larger, stronger, better organized ISIS and claiming it is going to take time. Typical BS from the amateur and Islamic supporter in the WH.
