The DaVinci system is a computer assisted robotic surgical device. The surgeon sits at a console viewing live images and uses telemanipulators to control precision instruments which are placed in the patient via small incisions.
This robotic system received FDA approval in 2000 and the first robotic radical prostatectomy was done that same year. So assuming Dr Patel was involved in this type of surgery from its inception, and has done 9000 procedures, then that translates to 600 per year. If he does not operate on weekends or holidays and takes no vacation then he averages 2.5 to 3 surgeries per day. Guess he's one busy guy.
Glad hubby is doing well. It pays to use an experienced surgeon?
Incidentally, just wondering if we're allowed to write ***** on this blog or do we have to write *****?
