Sadly, the penalties in Florida for a hit and run are lower than for a DUI. So, it seems that some feel running is the better course and, of course, they might never get caught. Personal responsibility, morals and ethics seem to take a back seat.
Possibly the driver had a "couple of beers" as they like to say and wanted to avoid a dui. Sad that they do seem easy on this type of non-injury thing.
