The benches are for those occasions when you're out doing something else with your spouse, and you run across a shop (or shops, heh) that you would like to look in. (into which you would like to look--for Barefoot's mom...)
Or those times when you're both going to some store for an item, and it's so full of potpourri your spouse has a sneezing fit. Off to the bench he goes.
