As I was typing the above, I was thinking that others experience would be different because I remember seeing the movie, The Man With the Golden Arm about drug addiction when I was in high school.

It may have happened more in New York and Chicago but not at all common in the smaller Midwest city where I grew up. My grandfather who raised me was a police officer there for almost forty years. We all come here with different experiences and I am pretty sure what I wrote above is valid. We lived in the same house all of my growing up years and no neighbors moved that I remember. We didn't often get new kids in our class at school. People were pretty aware of what went on. Mothers stayed home and communicated over the back fences.
