Default Black lives DO matter.....

First thing I would like to do here is be respectful, but I read this piece in the Chicago Tribune, written by a black woman.

It struck a chord because it is something that I just do not understand, and she speaks directly to the issue I do not understand. While she speaks of Chicago, it is of national import.

We place so much attention, both in the media and in groups protests, and it appears that now it is beginning to appear as if it will be made a political issue as well, on the police shooting of black men.

It is absolutely unforgivable for a white police officer to even shoot, let alone kill, an unarmed black man, unless he/she fears for his/her life. There are systems in place to handle that kind of thing, and while no system is perfect, it does appear to work. Ferguson, if you recall, the police officer was justified yet a town was burnt down.

Republicans as well as Democrats feel strongly about the shooting of unarmed people, both black and white, by a police officer and speak out about that.

What seems to only be mentioned as an after thought is blacks killing blacks day after day after day...This is from that article in the Chicago Tribune, by a black woman...she was speaking of a gathering of people in Chicago concerning the killing of black men.

She mentioned the mayor and a few members of clergy who spoke.....

"They were exhorting, pleading, begging.

Pfleger begging that the “coward” executioner be exposed. McCarthy exhorting gang-banging “mutual combatants” to end the warfare. Emanuel pleading that people in the community have “a moral responsibility” to come forward.

As I watched and listened to it all in TV reports and online narratives, I noticed: The loudest voices calling for an end to the slaughter came from whites.

White voices asking that we save African-American children.

Pfleger, McCarthy and Emanuel are passionate about ending the raging street crime that has turned Chicago neighborhoods into war zones. As they should be."

Where are the black voices?"

Laura Washington: Speak up, black leaders, on killings of young blacks | Chicago Sun-Times

I think the emphasis on police killing blacks and ignoring of blacks killing blacks sends an incorrect message. Violating the law is the centerpiece; fight back if the law enforcement does something....do nothing if not. To me, that creates a very very bad message for any young blacks.

She continues....

"Chicago has become known as the nation’s ground zero of black-on-black warfare. The gangbangers are running our streets. Black lives don’t matter to them.

But where is the black leadership in this town? Where are the moral voices? Where is their outrage? Where are their demands that the slaughter cease?"

We have all read the statistics on how many young black men are killed by blacks...it is extraordinary.

YET, and this I do not understand either, it is difficult to find those statistics anywhere in the main stream media. THEY CAN BE FOUND, but on sites that are sadly political sites. EVEN THOUGH, over 90% of blacks are killed by another black and according to Center for Disease control TWICE AS many white men are killed by police officers.

It is an election cycle. WHY are not candidates speaking to this issue ? WHY are protestors only involved in the least severe and least problematic area of shootings. WHY is not obeying the law the issue rather than the color aspect of this national disgrace. ?

I am not searching for an emotional racially charged discussion.

I AM searching for opinions on why our 'leaders" of both parties are not addressing the real problem...lack of respect for the law whether that takes the shape of a confrontation with police or not without the racial component.

OR...am I not seeing something here ???
