Strict gun laws obviously don't work, so that's a moot point. We have a federal background check for all dealer purchases.
By the way, violent crime is down from 20 years ago.
But, criminals are criminals and will always find a tool of intimidation to use when committing a crime.
You can't blame either party for their lack of understanding on how to handle the gun situation. No laws can make a difference unless you are prepared to incarcerate those that use a gun in the commission of a crime. A whole different charge, separate from the main charge. That will act as a deterrent. Having no gun zones doesn't help either. You don't have to worry about the law abiding citizen. It's the criminals that will disregard that rule/law.
So, all that aside, until someone can come up with something that can be applied to the water supply that will make people non-violent, we will always have murders. But, as long as judges and politicians keep commuting sentences of violent offenders, then there is no deterrent to crime. So far, the only deterrent available right now is straight shooting COPs. COPs that put down these mad animals in the street.

Driving 50 miles to purchase a gun wasn't my premise. Take a look at my next sentence. The premise that I think that I was addressing was Chicago has strict gun laws, and that hasn't deterred gun violence at all. So, why have strict gun laws at all?
Release prisoners in jail for small amount of illegal drug use, and possession. Then, fill the jails with violent lawbreakers that use guns. Mandatory sentence for people caught with illegal guns, and real long sentences for repeat offenders.
I find it hard to believe that cops don't know, who the major drug dealers are in each large city. An asset test is one way to know. They probably are hiding their money. but their life style is something that probably isn't that well hidden. Maybe we should have a real war on crime instead of a meaning less slogan.
