Earth Hour
Don't forget tonight is the annual celebration of Earth Hour. Per their web site:
Earth Hour: March 29, 2008 8 - 9 PM
- Cities around the world will join together in literally turning off the lights for one hour to offer leadership and symbolize their commitment to finding climate change solutions.
- Lights will be turned off at iconic buildings and national landmarks from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
- Local businesses and restaurants will also be asked to turn off their lights.
- People at home can take advantage of the hour by replacing their standard light bulbs with energy-efficient compact fluorescent bulbs.
This thing was started by the WWF (what the heck the World Wrestling Federation has to do with this nonsense escapes me) and is advertised as: "A global event created to symbolize that each one of us, working together, can make a positive impact on climate change."
Aside from the obvious, I see two potential snags. First, if you plan on mugging anyone tonight, it might benefit you to do so between 8 and 9. Second, since obviously billions and billions of people will turn off stuff for the designated hour, you might want to be careful about a power surge around 8:59 to 9:01. An extra aside --- wonder how many house fires started with candles we'll have tonight.
