I don't know of any short cruises over Christmas with reduced single supplements, but Silversea and Oceania sometimes offer very attractive reduced single supplements.
There's a distinction between a single cruise traveler and a solo traveler. A single is usually interested in meeting other singles, to either simply have fun together on a cruise or possibly start a relationship that lasts beyond the journey. A solo cruiser takes cruises alone, either by choice or doesn't have friends who are able to join in (due to cost, work schedule, interests), but being alone isn't going to stop him or her from traveling.
Many solo travelers enjoy Silversea for their reduced supplements, dance hosts on some sailings, added attention given to solo travelers and all-inclusive fares (no one worries about who's picking up the check). Oceania now offers single supplement reductions on some sailings, and Crystal and Seabourn also have dance hosts on some of their longer sailings.
On bigger ships, Royal Caribbean features 28 dedicated solo cabins aboard its Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas, including interior studios with "virtual balconies" (80-inch floor-to-ceiling LED screens projecting real-time ocean and port views). Like the standard studio cabins, "super studios," with 55-square-foot open-air balconies, will include no single supplements.
Norwegian Getaway, Norwegian Breakaway, and Norwegian Epic added studio cabins that are priced for single occupancy and feature an exclusive, shared social space called the Studio Lounge. It offers a bar, two large TV screens, hosted daily gatherings and a concierge for booking dinner reservations and shore excursions.
River cruise lines tend to be very welcoming to solos. Tauck River Cruising (one of my favorites and all-inclusive) is dedicating four cabins for solo travelers aboard each of its new riverboats, ms Savor and ms Inspire. AmaWaterways' European ships (great food and service) also offer single-occupancy staterooms on six of its ships. Also, Avalon and Uniworld offers reduced single supplements on a many of their cruises.
Last but not least, the luxury French cruise line Ponant, sailing to all seven continents on yacht-style ships, often operates itineraries with no single supplements.
Lest we not forget the individual cruiser who is traveling with friends or family and simply wants his or her own cabin and bathroom. Selecting a cruise with reduced or no single supplements can mean more trips in the future.
