On another point, I do not think that having a marriage license makes you love another person more. It certainly has a lot more legal benefits but also brings many drawbacks if the parties are unequal as far as financial assets are involved. That's probably why there are more non-traditional relationships among celebrities and those who they are enamored with. Lee Marvin comes to mind and I believe we studied his case in Family Law at the University of Minnesota Law School.

I did get a few divorce lawyer jokes when taking Judith Younger's
Family Law course as I grew up in Reno, Nevada even though most of the time I was there from 1970-1983 or so, they had a lot more marriages being performed than divorces. They just tore down the bridge in Reno where some divorcees would throw their wedding rings when there was the divorce boom in Reno, Nevada. I never went ring hunting in the Truckee River though.
