If I ever did "Name that Tune", I'd have to do the new version where you guess that song in 4 notes. I couldn't survive the old show where you had to run across the stage and ring the bell. I'd have to stop half way for a cigarette.

And now for my aside ~~ basic training, 1968. Lackland AFB. My flight is marching by the skating rink --- remember those?? --- and we could hear an instrumental playing. Sotto voce (fancy, huh?) one guys asks the name of the song. It's very familiar, but I'm drawing a blank. I started running the lyrics through my head. They came easily, but no title. I said the lyrics out loud, but quiet enough that the NCO couldn't hear. Guys all around me picked up on it and we were all quasi singing along with the song. Had all the lyrics, but no damned title.

Oh, my love
my darling
I've hungered for your touch
a long lonely time
and time goes by so slowly
and time can do so much
are you still mine?
I need your love
I need your love
Godspeed your love to me

Lonely rivers flow to the sea,
to the sea
to the open arms of the sea
lonely rivers sigh 'wait for me, wait for me'
I'll be coming home wait for me

Oh, my love
my darling
I've hungered for your touch
a long lonely time
and time goes by so slowly
and time can do so much
are you still mine?
I need your love
I need your love
Godspeed your love to me

Who'da thunk a song in those days would have all those lyrics without mentioning the title in them. About 20 minutes and quite a ways from the skating rink, one of the guys in the middle of the formation yelled out, "Unchained Melody, :edit: :edit: , Unchained Melody."

But I digress . . .
