Or you could install something like a ring doorbell (
Ring Video Doorbell for Your Smartphone | Ring). It is a connected doorbell with a video camera, two way audio and motion detection. You can always see why came near your door (whether they ring the bell or not) and you can answer your door and see/talk to who is there without having to go to the door (or even be at home).
