Those interested in this topic should reference Thomas Mott Osborne/aka Tom Brown. Osborne was born in 1859 in Auburn New York. In 1913, he spent a week in the Auburn State Prison under the name of Tom Brown to assess prison life and then wrote about it and revolutionized/reformed American prisons.......

He was quite a celeb in his day. This same prison was the first in the country to use the electric chair (once) but executions were moved to Sing Sing
