Three alternatives are provided on each hole of an Executive course. But I could be wrong in my explanation.
Usually, newbies golf from the green tee markers which are closest to the flag.
Some of us never progress any farther than the greens no matter how long we've been playing.
The middle gold tee markers are further from the flag.
The black tee markers are furthest from the flag and are for those with a stronger swing.
