The alarms installed by The Villages have the following life expectancy.
Carbon dioxcide 5 year smoke alarms 8 years.

the original alarms or whatever reason caused some difficulty when replacing the batteries.

I have for safety reason replaced all my alarms twice. I just replaced the batteries in all my alarms yesterday and to my delight the batteries slide in easily . don't forget to replace the 9v battery in your irrigation control box also.

if you are getting a continual chirping its either a bad battery or alarm. Perhaps the chirping coming from some other source such as a cell phone that hasn't been charged
