My occupation taught me to be consistent in following the rules of the road irrespective of place or time. so if I was out in the boondocks at 4:00 AM and approaching an intersection with a stop sign, I would stop. If turning I would signal, if it were a four lane and changing lanes I'd signal for a lane change. Staying true to these habits makes it more likely that a driver will remain in compliance.
At round-a-bouts I signal my intentions. As I approach my gate at a right-a-bout i signal that I'll be turning right into the gate's entrance
I do all that and when another driver annoys me I never resort to extending my middle finger.
