Roger Goodell keeps his job as long as the owners are happy, not the players, he works for the owners. In previous years when they had halftimes featuring The Who, Tom Petty, Paul Mccartney and Bruce Springsteen, he was preaching to the choir. Essentially the older crowd that would appreciate that type of music will watch the NFL regardless. The younger adult male is the market place of the future, and I believe that's why they've shifted the music to fit that demo.
