Neutrals are hard for me, too. All those neutral shades have undertones that I don't always think I see.

Sometimes, after I narrow it down, I ask the person who mixes the paint what colors are in the formula. That has helped me several times to better see the undertones, which will determine the color effect that can drive or complement or really mess with a room.
