Hey Floridagal...Maybe you called it hitchhicking when those beach busses were too crowded, I called it getting a "pickup". Busses so crowded sometimes 2 or 3 passed before you could get on. And the guys with the convertables knew it and would cruise in the area looking for "pickups"..Met alot of guys that way! (was I nuts now that I think about it)..Those sure were different times. As for dances. I went to OUr Lady of Solice on Sunday nites, St Helenes, Mt St Micaels Hayes and of course Evanders dances..As many as I could fit in on a weekend. Lived on Radcliff Ave near Gun Hill Rd..
City Island had too many restaurants too remember but all the seafood tasted like it just jumped out of the water on to your plate...Used to go to those little penny arcades there too...
