Kinda but not really, a water softener doesn't polish (or clean the water of particulate matter down to 5 micron particle size)
But a softener does remove calcium & magnesium both of which are present but at low levels here meaning they
are not by any means required and our triple cartridge system works great as a stand alone.
In several hundred homes I've done here to date, only two folks added softeners.
By the same token over 25 or 30 clients that had softeners installed by others added our triple canister system finding the softener inadequate for great tasting water.
By far besides our triple system the other option added most added is the counter top RO (reverse Osmosis) unit for only $395
