I'm afraid you have it all wrong. It is you that is "lacking in intelligence" by not knowing the facts. Your apology is accepted.
Your lack of common sense is displayed when you make such statements, without first checking to see if in fact the other person is incorrect in his statement. Not only does that make you lacking in common sense, but ignorant of the facts and stupid.
