On the other hand being in a gun free zone does have the potential to increase the risk of being shot. About the same as in schools for example.
The emotional/predjudice/inference that always surrounds those who have guns legally stifles reality.

Whether or not your assessment of safety is accurate does not matter.
It is the perception that matters and influences people. For example if open carry is permitted and I walk into a coffee shop and 3 different people are carrying side arms, I'll go to another shop.
I did not say what their gender was, race, how they were dressed, clean cut, religion----all that makes a difference in perception.
