I used to have fun with telemarketers. If Kirby vacuum salesman calls, I respond with – I own a Kirby Vacuum store, I get several free floor models, can you beat free. Sometimes I say I’m unemployed and start asking them questions about getting a job with their telemarketing company. They seem a bit flustered with that one. If I get a call to change my phone company, I’m a regional manager for AT&T, can you beat my price of free. If xyz water softener calls, I have an xyz water softener and love it, thank you for calling. If the IRS calls I say, boy did you pick the wrong number. I’m with IRS fraud protection, this call is being recorded, now what was your name and they hang up. What I get a lot of these days is surveys. They call and ask if they can ask a few questions about my tv watching or grocery stores or car shopping, or bank transaction, etc. I used to say I don’t have time and please don’t call back but they do. Now I tell them I’m just a house sitter and the owners will be back on, I just pick a date four months away. This seems to stop them, at least for four months I actually enjoyed messing with these people but I no longer have the patience. You can tell in the first few seconds if this is a legitimate call or a huckster. If I thought the call was sincere, I would engage them, but haven’t had one of those, yet.
