Also when you tell the browser to be the default, often a windows screen will pop up to verify that you really want it to be default. This is to prevent your default from being changed without you making the decision. If you just click ok, it will not make it default, you have to tell that screen which browser you want to be default.

It's a Windows 10 thing. :-)
