The original Kane's opened in 1947 on Central Avenue in St. Petersburg. I remember because my dad owned a laundromat next door. When I was in the 4th and 5th I had to spend a part of my summer there and would often go into Kane. They had great emploees. The old 6-1/2 small coke bottles were a nickel and they would let me go into the break room anytime and buy a coke.
Jump ahead to 2011. When we moved here we needed a lot of furniture. We want a leather love seat that was motorized, once you've owned a motorized seat you won't go back. We received a 10% off coupon in the mail from Kane's. Then we went to Ocala and walked through Kane's, Rooms to Go and Blockers, they're almost side-by-side.
First, Rooms to Go only only had motorized couches, no loveseats. I had a motorized couch before and didn't like having only one arm support. At Blockers we found some beautiful motorized loveseats but they all ran between $1300 to $1700. Next at Kane's they had many motorized love seats between $1000 to $1500. We bought one that was $1100 and with the coupon it was only a $1000.
After about two years of use the motor quit working. I called them and as with the OP, it was 3 weeks before a repairman could come. They did say I could try and put batteries in the little transformer box that's in the electric cord. It took a few AA batteries and the motor worked but was slow. Three weeks later the repairment showed up and took a look, then went to his truck and got a new transformer box and it worked perfect like before and has worked ever since then. As posted above the leather doesn't hold up as well as I would of liked, we may try some other stores next time in Leesburg such as Whites, Babettes, Hudson and Babcock.
