I have two cats and a puppy –– all have been microchipped. My vet told me when my first cat was chipped years ago that the chip readers were company specific. In other words, the person looking for the chip had to have a reader compatible with the chip in your pet. I don't know if that still applies or not. I do know my older cat has a chip from a different company than the ones in my other two pets. I still feel better knowing that my pets are chipped.
