An easy way to check taxes is to go to Lake County Tax Assessor
Tax Calculator, which I think is light years ahead of Sumter County's Tax page. If you put in $275,000 (a good average) for a purchase price of a house in Fruitland Park, it will provide you all the data and assumptions. (Exemptions, etc) Taxes are $4,015 per year (excluding bond).
Similar house in Sumter with a value of $275,000 would have ad valorem taxes (excluding bond) of about $1883 per year with a $50,000 exemption.
Yes there may be some small differences in Solid Waste, etc but it appears to be about double the taxes. If I am missing something here please inform us,
Bonds would add about $2200/year in Sumter based on type of property for that house price. Can't tell you what Lake county would be but I did hear they are a bit higher.
If this is correct...It is scary the taxes on the Ivy in Fruitland Park model center area with the pool asking now $815,000 , taxes would be $13,453 plus bond.
The new premiers... >$1.5 million houses. Taxes $25,426 plus >$60,000 bond. Hmmm, $2,700 for taxes and bond a month plus $400-500 a month to maintain and heat the pool! Ouch! If you got, use it.
