I live in Piedmont and at times we do here the train, especially when the wind is out of the northwest. However, it is in the distance and more of a nostalgic sound than an annoyance. We live off Belle Meade close to Legacy Lane and the Chatham gate. Sometimes when I am at the Chatham pool it sounds like the train is coming right through the golf course and into the pool. Very loud and annoying, you can hear the train whistle and the rumble of the cars. From our house you just hear the whistle in the distance. My point.....depends on where you are looking in the area. At the Calumet Grove pool it is again a distant sound. Hope this helps.
