Competition among workers / managers is highly frowned upon as is individual contribution .
The primary values that are recognized , rewarded and reinforced are those of collaboration and cooperation and " blending in ". The " Team " is ultimate most important .
This stifles what was once known as rugged individualism and deprives the share-owners of the firm many innovations that may have been developed and championed by those who were just flat out more gifted than the average employee .
However today being " average " and " fitting in " is what HR Managers look for and recommend for promotion and financial incentives .
It`s no longer thought to be a good idea to be the first person in the office every day and among the last to leave .
Instead it is more important to be front and center at the cake and ice cream celebration of Mary getting a new puppy or Jake`s pending marriage to Ralph from accounting .
