There are few that are not anguished about this horrible murder of 49 people and the terrible physical and mental pain inflicted on 53 others. The horrible pain suffered now by the people who know them and loved them and treasured them. The hole left in this world now that we have been robbed of their talents and their dreams.
We want to fix this horrible wrong, but for most of us our lives have been following the rules, never thinking to harm anyone physically in any way, no matter how angry we have felt. The Villages is full of people who have not ever hurt anyone and most who have not broken any laws. The group of us who live here are mostly people who have tried to bring up our children with the same views and to the best of our efforts treat our neighbors as ourselves.
We are outraged by this horrible event and are forever changed by it and we are suffering grief. Anger is part of it. We must continue to be activists in the best way possible, by being good people as most of us are.
This country will continue to be caring and welcoming and encouraging to all who work, are responsible and caring of those who cannot care for themselves. We cannot legislate morality or command good. We must be examples good enough for others to want to emulate. And thus teach.
