They need to "wand" the evaporator and condenser coils with a refrigerant sensor. If it was down 2 pounds then there are only two possibilities; the system was undercharged or there is a leak. They should never have left without looking for a leak and scheduling a repair date if they have to order parts. Leaks don't repair themselves.
