Tuition is only part of the cost of receiving an education. One also has to consider the cost of room and board.

I completed my BA degree in 2 years and 9 months, because I couldn't afford to attend an additional year.

Based on recent statistics, students can't even complete a 4-year degree in 6 years.

Hint: If you want to reduce your total cost of attend college, complete your degree requirements in the shortest amount of time possible.
Do you know students who attend community college. I've know many. Their profile is that they just about made it out of high school and took the easiest class load. They thought they could handle community college when they couldn't.

I think when tuition is $40k a year it does affect drop out rate.

My wife got her degree in 2 years 9 months. Our thought was not only did you save a years tuition, you also made an extra years salary. That's when tuition was only $350/year at a state college or $450 at a state university.
