There are typically some interlocks that block operation of the roof. For example you typically cannot open or close the roof if the car is moving, possibly if the transmission is engaged, or if the windows are up. IMHO, I am guessing one of these sensors or interlocks is bad and the result is the roof will not operate. I have no idea if these have fault codes or if these show up on the typical code readers. You may need to go to the car dealer to get detailed analysis.
You could also try a Google search on the subject, with any luck you will find a user blog that will have info from a user with the same problem.
