The original post was, at best, offensive. Strangely, the fact that a black man wasn't accosted in a white neighborhood is a rarity. Here, they are pretty safe but the same wouldn't be true in an exclusive white neighborhood in, say, Orlando. Being a black male, regardless of age or financial status, does not preclude them from being routinely stopped by police just to make sure they "belong" in that neighborhood. White mothers don't have to teach their sons to be extremely respectful when pulled over for a traffic violation nor to keep both hands on the steering wheel where an officer can see them at all times. White sons don't have to call their mothers every night to let them know they survived the day without incident. These are all the way of life for a black man in this society. It's true in Florida, the Deep South, the Northeast, the Midwest, even California.

I have seen some of the most bigoted comments made on this forum that absolutely astound me. And they've come from men claiming to be supposedly from relatively intelligent and successful. I cannot believe that anyone would believe that our society would be better if women were forced to stay in the kitchen. Barefoot and pregnant is not a great way of life. Sending blacks back to Africa would mean the loss of many great people here.

Those that are under the wonderful illusion that minorities, females, et al., are treated equally and fairly in this society are just mistaken. I keep hoping true equality will occur but I know it won't be in my lifetime but things have vastly improved from the days I went to college and started out in the workforce. So, I'm grateful for what has been accomplished but know it isn't enough. I don't want to go back to the fifties.
