The referral system in Central Florida is also in need of significant reform. The time delays for and out right ignoring of even " urgent " referrals is oftentimes appalling. I personally was admitted to a hospital through the ER and scheduled for surgery when my phone rang in the room acknowledging a referral made ten days before. I did not need to keep the appointment. For the record, when my friend returned to Vermont and was immediately admitted to the local hospital all his medical records had been reviewed by four specialists who came to his room together as a group to do a consult and prescribe a plan of treatment. I am originally from the greater Cincinnati area and overlapping medical issues were generally treated the same way there. It just does not work that way Florida and it is probably the fault of the legislature who enacted a statute dealing with " medical malpractice reform " and got nothing in return in manner of " medical practice reform ". Yep, a little ice and snow might be preferable after all to dying.
