What I find amazing about new country, is it's nothing more than watered-down southern rock, even Tom Petty called it bad rock. Listen to your 70's and 80's albums by Molly Hatchet, Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 Special, Blackfoot, The Outlaws, Tom Petty, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Black Oak Arkansas, Rossington Collins Band and if we can expand to the west coast, let's throw in The Doobie Bros and The Eagles and contemporary bands Kings of Leon and Alabama Shakes. All these bands are heads and shoulders above new country.
If I were stuck listening to only new artist, then without a doubt I would take new country over hip-hop and rap. I can't even consider them music in the true sense of a singer backed by a band. That's what I would really like to know, why do people listen to rap? What is appealing? There are many newer artist out there that I like such as Kings of Leon, Alabama Shakes and The Wall Flowers.
