All the advice about is great.
My tip is to use 3/8 x 3/8 tubing as a spacer between the siding and the bracket. When positioned correctly, this prevents "crushing" the siding when the bracket is secured. It takes a little work - cut the tubing to length and drill holes through opposite sides for the bolts.
Because of the wood sheeting behind the siding, I didn't attempt to hit wall studs. In fact, I avoided them. I used toggle bolts through the bracket, spacer and sheeting.
