Muncle,as a retired telephone repairman I got a great chuckle out of your story.I have one along the same lines.One of our newer installers went out to do a new installation and try as he might he could not establish a good ground(which is needed to complete the circut)He drove ground rods in 4 or 5 different locations to no avail.Finally totally frustrated he told the subscriber that she would have to"water"her ground rod once a week.He got away with that for a few months until the lady called repair service and said she was going on vacation and could that nice young man stop by once a week and water her ground rod while she was away"Busted"
