At this point in 2008, Obama's job approval rating was 78%, which means that 25% of people who did not vote for him thought he was doing a good job.
Obama was too busy in 2008 trying to rescue the economy from destruction to be running around the country giving victory speeches and bashing John McCain. Trump did his own version of this.
