Or you can turn off the circuit breaker, a lot simpler then climbing up to get to the plug. I agree with the 1 minute or so.
I am guessing we have a different model, as the are on contacts or switches I can see that would let the microwave know the filters were changed. I have cleaned ours 2 or 3 times since we moved in, and the last time the message to clean the filters would not reset. I just started ignoring it, and it eventually disappeared.
I completely agree with previous comments, these are cheaper to replace then repair, and you get a new warranty.
