Default Re: POA

When The Hospital Taxing Authority was proposed several years ago the POA was against this unfair tax which would have affected only Sumter County residents. The VHA seemed to feel that the tax would be minor and was the "only" way The Villages Regional Hospital could be expanded to meet the medical needs of this growing tri-county area. The POA did their homework and kept folks informed. They invited all residents to meetings to hear both sides of the issue and to ask questions. The VHA stood quiet and took the position that the tax wouldn't kill us and it would benefit all. Unlike the POA,The VHA only invites dues paying VHA members to attend their meetings.

The question was on the ballot and it was rejected. It didn't take long after that, for the money to be raised without the tax and the expansion of the hospital was started and completed. The POA stuck to their guns and all residents benefited.

This was no small undertaking. Had the taxing authority been created Sumter County Residents would be paying the tax for as long as we lived here.
