As is customary for all presidential appointees, he tendered his resignation with a new POTUS.
When that resignation is accepted, IT IS the same as being fired.
To top it off, apparently he's the only one smart enough to realize that having two commanding generals at THE SAME TIME (even for a couple of days)...is ignorant and idiotic.
