Twist it all you wish but he/she said that they are paying NO FEDERAL INCOME TAX. That's really not too hard to understand, even if you do insist on twisting it to your agenda. Payroll taxes for SS and Medicare is not included in Federal INCOME taxes in this conversation.
Let me add a little more to it. A family of four making middle income wages of about $50K per year will pay NO Federal Income tax.
