The hermit regime of Kim Jong-un in North Korea doesn’t have many friends. However, it seems the ties to its original benefactor, the Soviet Union under Joseph Stalin, remain strong. The official North Korean news agency in Pyongyang, KCNA, recently listed Russia as topping its BFF list, with Putin getting the first Lunar New Year holiday card.
Russia supplies the majority of fuel to North Korea and recently opened up new channels of cooperation in developing the railroad links between the two countries, which includes North Koreans studying in Russian transportation universities in Siberia.
With the bromance between The Donald and Vlad blossoming, perhaps Russia is in a position to rein in the North Korean strong man and his nuclear ambitions."
