Spicer was very very clear that Flynn was asked to resign because when he found out that Flynn had lied to Pence, he lost confidence in hm. Was very clear, that was the only reason.

Timeline has the President denying even knowing at approx 1PM, Conway giving the President has full confidence in Flynn. Later in the evening he is history. Actually Conway mentioned how he was still functioning on the Security Council

Just to remind you of something, and I hate to do this, but I do not recall his name, but a reporter who was around during Clinto AND Nixon.....he basically said his experience is you have minimal leaks until you begin to lie, then there will be leaks.-
