Actually the hearing was to begin to investigate what the Russians did to influence the US Presidential election. The relevant agencies have already reported that the Russians did use multiple methods in their attempt to manipulate it, to support Trump and to oppose Clinton.

They have not drawn any conclusions as to what the result would have been had there been no Russian interference, but they left no doubt in their report that an attempt was made.
