Driving home from golf last week on Buena Vista trail I saw smoke, and first thought someone was overly bar-b-queing. Then I saw the flames under the hedge. We U turned and my dear husband tried to stomp it out with his golf towel while I called 911. A quick thinking and limber fellow villager stopped and leaped over the fence to get into the yard backing the MMP, and borrowed someone's hose to spray out the fire. The fire was almost out by the time the fire dept got there.

That fire was spreading very fast due to the wind and would have reached the house within minutes.

As we were spreading the ashes making sure we didn't have any embers we found a butt had perhaps blown into the dry leaves under the hedge on the edge of the multi use path. I suspect smokers think if they drop a lit butt on the pavement it will eventually burn out, but with the winds these butts don't stay on the pavement.
